“Indeed successful is the one who became pure.”

   { قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ } “Indeed successful is the one who became pure.” This is the 14th Ayah of Surah al-A’ala (Chapter number 87 of the Holy Quran). We are taking its short explanation from Tafsir at-Tabari(جامع البیان عن تأویل آی القرآن) by summarizing it. “Indeed successful is the one who became pure.” Imam Tabari says: Successful is the one who has made himself pure by avoiding “Kufr” (disbelief) and Allah’s “Disobedience”. And acted upon Allah’s command, fulfilled his/her duties. Tabari further says that Ibn al-Abbas said: It means “The one who gets purity from Shirk (Idoltary). Hassan Basari says: It means, “The one whose action is pure” Qatadah says: “The one who is pious” Ikramah says: It means, “Tho one who said There is no God but Allah (means believing in one God)” Imam Tabari says: Some interpreters have said, "It means to give charity from your money."
